Better Deal than I Got! Look at this 95pt California Red Blend

Dangit! I pulled the trigger on an ENTIRE CASE of this in April, only to find it four bucks a bottle cheaper here. Well, if I bought a full case of it at almost a $50 premium, this deal should be the one to jump on!

This wine should be over $100 a bottle... if you like Pahlmeyer, Opus One, Hundred Acre, you're going to love this wine.

51% Cabernet Sauvignon
24% Malbec
13% Merlot
11% Petit Verdot
1% Carmenere

This is a wonderful red blend from a solid California producer!

This is a PROTOTYPICAL Kirk's Wine Deal... mid-tiered price for TOP-tiered performance.

Lost Deal, Found Again

I went to post this deal last week, only to find that it was sold out by the time I got to it. Now I've found it again at a better price!

This is a good wine to stock up on for everyday drinking.

Franciscan Estate is an established producer in Napa Valley, owned by Agustin Huneeus. This wine is a solid mid-level wine that (in my book) simply puts it mid-pack.

On an average year, I wouldn't consider this wine. It's simply not what it takes to make it to "Kirk's Wine Deal" status. This year is different, though, as they score a 94 point score from Wine Enthusiast.

Mid-level producer, spectacular vintage, makes this a "Kirk's Wine Deal"!

Heavy-Duty Pinot Noir! 95 Points

These will go fast... I haven't tasted this Pinot, but when Wine Spectator gives a 95 point score, it's a SERIOUS wine.

Pinot Noir's flavor profile is a lighter red wine, but not short on fruit notes. When serving with food, it's a utility player, serving well with many dishes. Excellent at a dinner where people have chosen lots of different dishes that might have conflicting wine pairings.

I'd jump on this one... this retailer only has about 10 cases to go around.

We've All Heard of "Super Tuscans"... Have you Heard of a "Super Umbrian"?

I got schooled tonight!  I've heard of Italy's Super Tuscans, a breed of Italian wines that evolved in the 70s and 80s.  But I've never heard of Super Umbrians... until today!

Also made in Tuscany, this wine is made in particular in Umbria (duh).  It's made of Merlot and Cabernet, flavors that I love!

This wine looks really good!  Made from Cabernet and Merlot, well reviewed by Robert Parker... and at a price that you can afford to drink almost every day!

96 Point 2007 Stonestreet Cabernet under $40

I'm torn on this deal.  It's only discounted 5 bucks a bottle...BUT, it's a 96 point California Cabernet under 40 bones.  THAT makes it a deal.

It's hard for retailers to make fair margins when bottle prices get lower and lower.  If it were a $150 wine, there might be a lot more leeway on the price and still make a living... but the margin-per-bottle is tighter down in this lower price territory.

I've been buying from this retailer for many years.  www.calwine.com does a great job, and they'll store your purchases until the fall if you live in a warm climate.

Living in Florida, I WON'T SHIP ANY PURCHASES FROM EARLY MARCH TO MID-NOVEMBER.  Just.... don't.  You'll cook the wine.

97 Point California Cabernet - Aged and 40% Off!

I've been buying this wine for years, but not from this retailer.  Wine.com usually has high prices, but this deal is one of the rare ones I'll recommend.

Why is this such a deal? My opinion is that it's about timing. When the 2005 vintage of this producer hit the channel, Robert Parker gave it only a 92. In 2008, the depths of a recession, no one in their right mind would pay over 100 bones for a 92 point wine.  BUT, Parker
reviewed the wine AGAIN in June 2011, and it had improved tremendously. He's now giving it a 97 point score and drinking window out to 2041. That's near-legendary status... but for most folks in the en primeur wine channel, that deal is long-gone.

California Classic at a Fair Price

If you've been drinking wine for a while, you'll recognize the name Silver Oak.

The 2007 vintage was an excellent one for California Cabs, and Silver Oak is one of the biggest names.

This deal is for their Alexander Valley Cabernet, grown in northern Sonoma County.

It's a classic.

Bordeaux-like Complexity for "Everyday Drinker" Price

This is a bordeaux-style blend out of Washington State that is a fantastic drinking wine. I've bought this blend for years, always happy to pull it out of the cellar and pour it, even at nice dinner parties.

I personally like the Washington State cabernets. In my experience the fruit has always been a bit "brighter" and youthful than California. That's a definite plus for a classic American palate, loving fruit-forward styles.

Their Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for the Reserve program were harvested from the top 10% of the vintage's best vineyard sites. Named after Washington's pioneer grape grower, this vintage is a blend of 65.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32.1% Merlot, 2.7% Cabernet Franc, and it was aged for 30 months in new French oak. The fruit was picked from Columbia Crest’s premier vineyard sites, with the Wahluke Slope providing the aromatics, texture and complexity, Cold Creek contributing flavor and fruitiness, and Horse Heaven Hills fruit introduces balance and body.
